Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the retailer pays us a commission. You pay exactly the same price either way. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is a link that carries a code identifying us as the referrer. If you click it and buy something within the retailer's tracking window, the retailer pays us a percentage of the sale. The price you pay is not affected — the commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not out of your pocket.
Affiliate links on this site are marked in three ways: a disclosure appears at the top of
every page containing them, before you can reach any of the links; buttons that lead to a
retailer are labelled "paid link"; and the links themselves carry the
rel="sponsored nofollow" attribute so search engines can identify them too.

What this does and does not influence
It does not influence which products appear on this site, how they are ranked, or what we say about them. Our scoring rubrics are fixed and published before products are scored against them, commission rate is not an input to any score, and products with no affiliate program are included and ranked on identical terms.
It does influence which retailers we link to, because we can only link to retailers whose programs we belong to. If a product is best bought somewhere we earn nothing, we will say so rather than steer you.
We are not going to claim commissions have zero effect on a business funded entirely by commissions. What we do instead is publish the method and the policy, so you can check our conclusions against our stated reasoning rather than take our word for anything.
Why prices are not shown on this site
Two reasons, and both are in your interest. Amazon's program terms only permit displaying their price and availability data through their own links or API, so a price typed onto this page by hand would be a violation. And prices on this equipment change constantly — a stale number is worse than no number, particularly in Q4. We show a price band for planning and link out so you always see the real, current figure.
